The Need for Antifreeze in your car

The Need for Antifreeze in your car

From the word ANTIFREEZE, we get to know something that stops from freezing or something against freezing, but what is its need in your car? and where is it placed?

What is Antifreeze:

The other word for antifreeze is car coolant they both work for the same purpose. Water in cars is mixed with bright yellow or green liquid that prevents cars, trucks and other vehicles radiators from freezing or overheating.

The cooling system is designed to lower the freezing point as well as control the raise of the boiling point of the system. Coolants keep your car working and engine up to date and keeps it maintained.

Antifreeze coolant is an alcohol-based chemical that is made up of Ethylene Glycol.by adding coolant or antifreeze to the car’s cooling system we are able to increase the temperature of a vehicle run before the cooling system boil.

Coolant boiling point vs pressure:

Boiling point of water is 100-degrees C while The known pressure range of a car’s radiator is between 75-100kPa (or 11-15psi) and with a mix of 33% antifreeze temperature to water and the boiling point is raised to 121-125-degrees C, therefore, Change in  the ratio raises up to 55% and this lifts to 125-129-degrees.

Antifreeze Hazards:

Everything has advantages and disadvantages while on one side if coolants are effective but it has some harms too. The chemical that is slightly sweet-smelling even in small measures is noxious to pets and humans,

1- Two ounces of ethylene glycol can kill a dog.

2- One teaspoon of ethylene glycol can be lethal to a cat.

3- Two tablespoons of ethylene glycol can be dangerous for children.

4- Swallowed ethylene glycol turns into acid that straight causes damages to kidneys and their failure even death.

Using water against coolant:

The idea of using water has become more than usual because the purpose of coolant in your car’s engine is basically to increase the boiling point of the water which is being impelled around your car’s engine and by which the radiator where the air is flowing cools down the water and brings it to normal.

It's important to have a check and balance of the coolant or antifreeze in your car. It should be cooling disposed and replaced from time to time. it’s vital to keep a regular check of the fluid in the radiators. By using a hydrometer we verify the condition of the coolant and get to know the minimum and maximum temperatures of the antifreeze or coolants on different levels.

If the fluid looks a little milky it is sure that oil has got into the system via a leaking this can kill your car’s engine. Get the car to a mechanic immediately. Never dispose of antifreeze or coolant down the drain or on the ground this will pollute rivers and streams through the grounds. Instead of disposing store it in clearly labeled containers and give it to any antifreeze recycler they can reuse it, distill or filter it, removing hazardous chemicals and setting it for re-use.
