If you're thinking of learning to drive, you might be wondering how driving lessons in Australia compare to those in the UK. After all, they're both English-speaking countries with similar road rules, right?
Well, there are actually a few key differences between learning to drive in Australia and in the UK just like their different theory tests. Australia has a Drivers Knowledge Test while the UK has UK driving theory test.
Learning to Drive in the UK
In order to start driving, you must first obtain a provisional license. Be sure to apply as early as possible since instructors won't be able to give you driving instruction unless you have it.
The Highway Code is the following stage after you have received your temporary license. All road users, including strollers, those who use mobility scooters, bicyclists, horseback riders, motorists, and motorcycle riders, must study the Highway Code.
The theoretical test comes after this. You can review for the theoretical examination and take practice exams using publications and programs. The test can be divided into two segments; multiple choice questions and Hazard Perception Test.
The multiple choice questions are based on three books: Know your traffic signs, The Highway Code, and Driving- the essential skill. Both the tests can be practiced digitally; there is even a mobile application available for the Hazard Perception Test for both ios and android.
Learning to Drive in Australia
The first thing you have to do in order to learn to drive in Australia is to get a learner’s permit. You can get driving experience in the designated class of vehicle with a learner's permit.
To be eligible for a learner's permit to operate a vehicle in the "C" grade, an individual must be 16 years old. A learner's permit is good for three years; after that time, you must reapply if you want to keep learning to drive.
When registering for a learner's permit, one must take the Computerized Theory Test for Learners (CTT) and must successfully complete the test before being allowed to drive.
Reading the proper manual and running through the corresponding theoretical test should come first. Before you enter a Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) center or local representative, be sure you'll feel comfortable taking the exam.
To keep track of your monitored driving sessions after receiving your learner's permit, you can either use a traditional method of paper Learner Log Book or the Learn&Log app.
The Learn&Log application costs nothing to use, while there is a charge if you decide to log your hours using the paper Log Book.
So, if you're considering learning to drive in either Australia or the UK, it's worth being aware of these key differences. Who knows, you might even find that one country's driving lessons suit you better than the other!
